About the author(s)

Professor Michael Cowling is one of the leading academics in Criminal Justice in South Africa. Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Professor Cowling has numerous publications to his name, is a regular contributor to the South African Journal of Criminal Justice, and is co-author of South African Criminal Law and Procedure Volume III: Statutory Offences.

Professor Shannon Hoctor has published over 90 journal articles and chapters, and is a regular contributor to the South African Journal of Criminal Justice, which he also serves as editor. He is also the author of Cooper’s Motor Law and co-author of South African Criminal Law and Procedure Volume III: Statutory Offences, along with an edited book.
